Waze incident reports are now coming to Google Maps.
Both apps are owned by Google.
One of Waze’s most popular features is incident reports. These reports enable drivers to anticipate issues such as traffic jams, accidents, and closed roads, allowing them to adjust their routes in real time to avoid delays. Google is now adding the feature to Maps.
According to 9to5Google, Google Maps has started displaying Waze incident reports. The company is gradually rolling out the new feature. However, initial screenshots have emerged showing what the pop-up window will look like when users receive alerts during navigation.

The development teams of both apps announced earlier this year that the first type of report drivers will get is police alerts. A Maps user shared a screenshot with the message, “Police reported ahead.” The app then invites drivers to either validate the information or dismiss the alert.
Notably, Google Maps will specify when the alert information comes from Waze.
Additionally, the updated Google Maps interface for iOS and Android now allows users to submit incident reports. This data integration is expected to enhance the overall experience.
Various types of alerts, including accidents, traffic jams, and road hazards, are expected to be introduced over time. Currently, Google Maps benefits from a decade’s worth of data. In 2023, Google acquired Waze for more than $1 billion, although the two apps didn’t merge.
Instead, Google Maps and Waze continued to operate separately, each offering unique features and maintaining distinct differences. However, in 2022, Google decided to combine the development teams of both apps under the name “Geo” during a period of significant restructuring within the company.
