As the residents of Tim Burton's famous Halloween Town once said, boy and girls of every age, wouldn’t you like to see something strange? Well, according to Google, America wants to see a whole lot of Shrunken Head Bobs this Halloween, which would be quite strange yet also delightful.
Google recently published its annual Frightgeist list, which features the top most-searched costumes in the U.S. Topping the list this year is Shrunken Head Bob, an assistant to bio-exorcist Betelgeuse in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, followed by the Australian breakdancer Raygun and Catnap from Poppy Playtime. Use Google’s Frightgeist to Find Out Which Costumes Are Trending in Your Town or City
While Frightgeist presents a list of the overall most-searched costumes, it also allows you to check out the five most-searched costumes in different areas based on your zip code.
According to Frightgeist, the top most-searched costumes in Austin, Texas, which is where I went to college, are the following: Minion, Raven (from Teen Titans), Deadpool, Fairy, and Catwoman. Honestly, it fits with Austin, where it was hard not to find a Minion or Marvel fan at every corner. You can also download a card with top costumes in your area to share on social media.
Besides adult costumes, Frightgeist also features trending kids’ costumes, dog costumes, and duo costumes. As an adult and Jujutsu Kaisen fan, I do wonder why “Gojo,” is ranked fourth overall under kids’ costumes. I know quite a number of people my age who would dress as up as the great Satoru Gojo. The top kids’ costume was Red, from Descendents, Dr. Doom, and Kidpool, respectively.
Meanwhile, the top dog costumes were:
- Dogpool
- Stegosaurus
- Hot Dog
- Basketball
- Beetlejuice
- Wolverine
- Sandworm
- Hippo
- Sherlock Holmes
- Zero
- Donkey
- Firefighter
- Batman
- Minion
- Target
If you’ve got your costume figured out already, you might be interested in checking out trending party themes, spooky foods, or Halloween decor.
Oftentimes it can be hard to see search data as fun when it’s about topics like politics or traffic jams, as important as both of those things are. As such, it’s cool to see what kinds of costumes everyone is looking out and how they’re preparing for our favorite frightful holiday. Safe trick or tricking.
