The story of the Humane AI Pin is one of disappointment. Users have consistently expressed their dissatisfaction, stating that the experience was simply inadequate. The device struggled to replace smartphones and failed to demonstrate that AI has reached the mature and nearly infallible stage that this concept suggests.
However, Humane isn’t ready to give up. The company acknowledges that the AI Pin hasn’t been successful but remains confident in its CosmOS operating system. The plan now is to extend the software to more devices.
Humane recently released a video to reintroduce CosmOS. The video includes a disclaimer saying that the images are for “illustration purposes” only and feature “working prototypes” and “simulated experiences.” Despite this, the message is clear: Humane’s software has capabilities that extend far beyond the Pin itself.
Initially, the company focused solely on the product, which was envisioned as a virtual assistant that could replace smartphones using a laser projector. Unfortunately, the innovative approach didn’t yield the desired success.
Following the disappointment with its hardware, Humane developed a software development kit (SDK) to integrate its software into other devices. The company plans to make the SDK available on its website soon and is encouraging automakers and smart speaker manufacturers to sign up.
Exploring new business avenues for the development of the AI Pin software could provide much-needed support for Humane. While the company is seeking a buyer, its future is currently unclear.
