For those whose bank accounts can accommodate any whim, the world offers endless vacation possibilities. Yet, even for millionaires, the appeal of sharing an “unconventional vacation” with other high-net-worth individuals is growing.

My Ocean, a company specializing in luxury experiences for exclusive clients, has carved a niche in this market. From mooring yachts at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix to offering front-row experiences at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, My Ocean creates unique vacation packages tailored to ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWI).

The company caters primarily to young ultra-rich millennials who value networking and community building. “Lots of business relationships have been fostered and deals have been made on these trips,” My Ocean boasts.

Its latest offering takes this concept a step further: shared luxury mini-cruises for those looking to escape traditional hotel stays at chains like the Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton. As Jonny Dodge, co-founder and CEO of My Ocean, told Forbes, “Evolving into community superyacht holidays was the logical next step. We’re on the wave of a whole new age of travel because of the change in wealth and family demographics. Shared group UHNWI trips will become the travel of the future.”

One such venture is Somnio, a 728-foot superyacht featuring 39 staterooms, each priced at $9.95 million. Slated for launch in 2025, Somnio promises an unparalleled luxury experience.

While these accommodations are technically cabins, their size and features rival upscale apartments. Each unit ranges from 1,960 to 10,365 square feet, with configurations offering up to four bedrooms, a living room, a dining area, and an optional galley.

Customizing the Experience

At this price point, no detail is overlooked. Amenities include a 10,000-bottle wine cellar, an onboard marina, a heliport, jacuzzis, pools scattered across multiple decks, a panoramic observation area, and a selection of exclusive restaurants.

Owners can further personalize their cabins with options like a private massage room, gym, and office. Jim Dixon, creative director of yachting and aviation at Winch Design, which crafted the vessel, explained, “The intention is for owners to design their apartments around the lifestyle they plan to have on board. Some owners might choose to spend three to six months on board.”

Shared luxury mini-cruises like Somnio strike a balance between owning a superyacht and the high costs of maintaining one, and taking a conventional tourist cruise with fixed itineraries. Owners on these shared vessels enjoy the flexibility to choose their routes and stay aboard as long as they wish. Meanwhile, the operating company handles all maintenance, staffing, and technical needs.
